Decorating Between the Seasons

I'm in a dilemma. It's not Christmas, and it's not Spring. So how do I decorate? Do I take down all the seasonal decorations . . . Winter and Christmas? Or can I leave the Winter decorations up, including the trees?

I just felt I wasn't ready to take everything down. My house would be too bare. So this is what I decided. Winter could stay . . . snowflakes, trees, snow . . . but not Santas, ornaments, or Christmas lights. I still have seasonal decorations, just no Christmas.

Now I'd like to hear from you. How do you decorate between the seasons? Do you take all the decorations down, or do you leave some up? I'm just curious. And then let me know what you think of my Winter decor. Do you think it still looks to Christmas-y? Or do you tend to just be so sick of Winter you put Spring out anyway? Let me know. I appreciate your comments.

    It all looks beautiful to me, I did the same thing, but for some reason mine still looked to christmassie so I took it all down and just redecorated...Yours looks amazing, hugs, Lisa

    Everything looks gorgeous. My personal opinion is that if you take down Christmas and go with a really springy look, you'll be tired of it by mid-March. Might as well keep out the winter decs and enjoy them -- and try to enjoy winter, too. It's not going away! The white feather trees are especially beautiful. I'm with you. Leave the winter, hold off on spring. I don't do Valentine's either -- just not my style.

    I kinda did what you did. I leave up the winter stuff like trees, pinecones, pine garlands, etc. I also left out a few primitive snowmen too. I'm thinking I should do some sort of Valentine's display though, I've been getting into V-day lately. Do you do any decorating for Valentine's Day? I love your house, your displays are beautiful! thanks for sharing-Krista

    It looks so serene - which is how I think we are supposed to feel after the holidays and at the start of a new year. Beautiful, just beautiful.

    I am a color nut - so after Christmas I do leave up some of the winter white & some red --- but add black for a Valentine's Day look. I add red and black checkerboard & of course hearts, hearts, hearts!

    This all looks great. The white feather trees are awesome, and I can't believe that I never even got all of mine out this year. I definitely will next year after seeing how great they still look in your house. I left some of my winter items up, but the majority is put away. You will still have a lot to put away when it is time for Spring, as you have a great variety of Winter items showcased here.
    Noticed the new piece in your mantle in the sitting room. : )

    My favorite idea is the ice skates in the aquarium. Love the nuetrals...elegant and peaceful.

    Such a beautiful home! I'd feel really comfortable there....we've got very similar tastes! I am having such a hard time taking my stuff down also...I was really sad when I dismantled my dining table of sticks and snow! After your inspiration I think some of mine is going to stay for awhile! Thanks for showing all the photos. love them!

    I tend to keep wintery things up...my sled coffee table, the vintage skis & snowshoes vignette, silver trees, etc. However, I've started incorporating green and gardeny items in anticipation for spring.

    I think it looks just like winter, Lani...no thoughts of Christmas here. Beautiful stuff! The only "wintery" thing I have out is the toboggan wall hanging because I went through an organization frenzy. Now my house looks just plain naked!

    This is how I do my winter decorating, also. I gradually go into spring starting in March.

    Your home looks SOOO pretty! I love all of your winter decor! I have taken down all of my Christmas and winter things, but I live in NC and it's a lot warmer here! I haven't started decorating for spring yet (although I have birds and nests and garden things out year round), but I have done a couple things for Valentine's day. I love how your house is decorated now, especially all the trees and ice skates :)!!

    I love your between-the-seasons decor. It's beautiful. I did the same thing but on a much smaller scale. Spring is such a long way away in our climate that I would probably just feel worse if I started getting out my spring items.

    I think we all have the same dilemma. Especially at my little gift shop.
    Too soon for Spring yet.

    I think your Winter decor is lovely.
    I'd leave it up through Feb.
    You can add reds or pinks with all your whites for Valentine's Month.

    I leave winter up til I am ready for Valentines day. Even then you can mix the whites and silvers with red and pink. Your decorations are so pretty. I agree that spring decor too early is boring. Once St. Patty's hits you can start up the spring greens. Pam

    Yep, that works beautifully! I do much the same thing, keeping to a simple, spare theme, lots of old silver, dark velvet pillows, lap rugs, a few forced bulbs, a bird's nest sprinkled with snowflakes.

    Somehow that rest for the senses is good after the color of Christmas. Spring here is months away yet.

    I am needing some great valentine ideas that don't look too cheezy so I haven't done much myself. I love the shelves you have decorated it looks like in your bathroom. I LOVE your decorating ideas and you have FABULOUS taste darling!

    You decor is awesome (except the toilet paper :O) Ha, Ha!) Love all the feather trees combined w/ silver. Also love that white pottery. Makes me want to pull out my milk glass collection. My favorite thing is your cloches. I know you have more reason than I do, given where you live, but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ready for winter to move on into spring!

    I love what you've done! I always get sick of mine and tear it down right after christmas and start bringing out a few touches of spring like bird nests, grass, feathers, etc.
