Scales . . . Scales . . . and More Scales!

I've been collecting scales for a while now and I thought it might be fun to share a few pictures of the ways I use and display them. They can be functional yet still visually appealing. They come in all sizes from small to mammoth! I've stayed away from the really large ones as they are way too heavy to transport and move around. Here are some examples . . .

Hockey Fundraiser

Okay, as a rule, I limit my posts to decorating. But I'll make an exception as this is something special. My daughter, who is 16 years old and is special needs, loves hockey! She lived and breathed it since she was 4 years old. She now plays for both Andover High School (JV) Hockey and on the MN Special Hockey team (http://www.mnspecialhockey.org/).

This past weekend we went to a fundraiser given by Mark Parrish from the MN Wild, and another group called Hockey Docs (http://www.hockeydocscharities.org/). We were able to meet a number of hockey players from all over. But the highlight of the night was meeting Kristi Yamaguchi. Her are some pictures of the night.

This is a picture of Tim Conboy. He playes with the Carolina Hurricanes and attended a MN Saints baseball game with MN Special Hockey the following Tuesday. He's hails from Rosemount, MN and will also skate with the Special Hockey team this Sunday.

It has kind of been a whirlwind and something we all will remember! Go Wild!

Oronoco's Gold Rush

I just got back from a junking trip to Oronoco for Gold Rush Days. It's an event once a year where the whole town is turned into one big flea market! It's been an annual thing for me for about the last 15 years. It's changed a lot since it's beginning, and it didn't seem to have quite as many dealers this year. But it seems I was still able to find some great things! My favorite being some tin works purchased from Billie Joe from Missouri. He had quite the stories (I swear he talked to us for about 45 minutes) and certainly made our day an enjoyable one. Most of the items I bought from him were for my own personal use. I wish I would have brought my camera so I could have taken a picture of him and his goods.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Georgia, a fellow junker and Junk Club member, and owner of Georgia Moon in Grover Beach, California http://www.georgia-moon.com/. She's a hoot and I wish I could have spent more time with her. I will try to visit her store sometime in the near future.

While I was there I ran into Ki Nassauer and her husband Kerry of the Junk Bonanza http://www.junkbonanza.com/ (which I will be selling at September 11-13). She informed me the new Country Home will be out tomorrow with my crib spring in it (yeah!) If you don't get the magazine, check it out on http://www.countryhome.com/cooljunk. I was also able to meet up with Sue Whitney of the Junk Market http://www.junkmarketstyle.com/ (new and improved website coming soon!) at her booth and visit with her, Tim and Kimberly. Sue was working on another book (can't wait!). I was also able to have them take some pictures of us, which will be forthcoming. They are a terrific group of people and I enjoyed my time with them.

All in all, it was a delightful day. Tiring, but well worth it. Can't wait until next year!
