A Fun Weekend of Fundraising Events!

Before I tell you about my weekend, I have to tell you I had another computer meltdown.  Is it me?  Another hard drive has once again bit the dust.  So as I do this post, it is definitely a labor of love as my hubby's Dell computer is nothing less than archaic!  I mean, how can a 2001 computer even still work for goodness sake!  But that is what I am typing on believe it or not.  So please bear with me if I make a few spelling mistakes, or if my wording isn't quite up to pare, or if I'm not able to check on all my favorite blogs or leave comments.  Everything I do on this computer takes time...a lot of time.  So my sincere apologies.  And they tell me I'll have to wait awhile to get my computer back, a two to four week wait.  It can't come any sooner.

So as my post title told you, I was a busy girl this weekend.  I had not one fundraiser, but two.  Yeah, two!  And they were both to most worthy causes.  The first, a Breast Cancer Fundraiser with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, was held under the big tent by none other than the Pfarkel Sisters in St, Charles, Minnesota, a small town just southeast of Rochester..  Sharon, Diane and Janelle hold this event each year with this year being their seventh!   It is hugely successful and is done with a trash to treasure theme.  Thus, the name, "Trash to Treasure Auction and Wine Tasting".  Yes, that's right.  It also comes with a wine tasting, yum, and this year included all wines from local Minnesota wineries.

I attended this years event for the first time with my friend, Sue Whitney, she's always fun to be with, and also my daughter Rebekah.  Sue and I both donated a trash to treasure item, mine being one I brought to Amy's blogger party (check it out here--I won third place in her contest).  Yeah!  Sue, unfortunately forgot her project at home (though she remembered all the pieces to go with it).  You'll have to check out what she came up with instead on her website, JUNKMARKET Style

Sharon most graciously put us up in her B&B (thanks, Sharon!) so we didn't have to worry about rushing home when it was done.  Rebekah and I even got to share the Wedding Suite!  LOL!  So all in all, we were able to enjoy the company, sip some wine and bid on some great donated projects.  I think it was a profitable night for us and the Susan B. Komen Foundation!

Janelle, Sharon and Diane, better known as the Pfarkel Sisters, are a great bunch.  Thanks gals for a great time!

The fundraiser/wine tasting is held every year at Sharon's B&B, Victorian Lace Inn.

The wine tasting was served up by Janelle's daughter, Meghan and her boyfriend, visiting from Las Vegas.  Meghan is a Vegas Cop!  Who'd of thunk?

And then there was the food.  Mmmmm good!  Thanks, gals!

And then there was the heavy metal music we enjoyed!  Pink Floyd anyone?  Only kidding....

We actually enjoyed the music of the Bandanas, a group comprised of three sisters, Rosie, Bev and Barb.

Some of the attendees sitting, waiting for the festivities to begin!

Some of the goodies just waiting to be bid on.

Sharon's ready to get things started.   Let the bidding begin!

Our beloved auctioneer for the event was St. Charles own, Laura, owner of Gathering and Gifts. She is all too aware of how worthy this event is and is battling breast cancer herself.

And we're off!

Cheers to another successful Trash to Treasures Charity Event. Great job, gals!

Now I'm sure you wondering...I said I had two fundraisers.  We'll after returning from Friday night's fundraiser we had another one on Saturday night in St. Paul.  It was a fundraiser for my daughter's Special Hockey Team, an organization comprised of players with special needs, both cognitive and physical.  Our job was a simple one.  We were to meet and greet the guests.  Easy enough.  And the highlight, being able to meet a couple of the Minnesota Wild Hockey players.  Rebekah was thrilled!  Didn't really matter to her if she had ever heard of them.  She even brought with her all the Wild cards she had collected and asked them to see if they were any of them.  She was so cute!

The two players she met, Josh Harding our backup goalie, and Nate Prosser a new Wild player with great potential from our neck of the woods, Elk River.  Before we left Rebekah, who's not so much into giving hugs, gave both of them huge hugs.  It was a great way to end a wonderful weekend.  Thanks to everyone who put on both of these amazing events!

My Oronoco Junking Finds!

I just returned from a junking weekend in Oronoco, MN for Gold Rush Days.  It's a great flea market that is held once a year on the third weekend of the month of August.  It's a "town event", literally!  They set up the whole town with booths filled with vintage items.  I've been going for twenty years, but I couldn't tell you how long they have been doing it.  Seems like forever.  It's definitely worth the trip and if you can go next year, go!

This year, Amy of Junkologie and Whisperwood Cottage held another Blog Party, her second annual one, along with the Pfarkel Sisters.  We met lots of fellow JMS members, and even was visited by a History Channel crew working on a pilot for a new show.  How exciting was that?  Look for pictures on that later.

But for now, I want to show you some of my great finds.  And I had a truckload full!  It seems like almost everything I found was heavy!  Why is that?  Got me, but I love what I found.  Here's a peak!

I'm assuming this piece was used in some type of factory. It is extremely heaving. It needs a little TLC, but I love it's industrial feel.

This sign gets to stay with me. It'll be going on my back door, just in case we forget how to get out. Ha!

I love drawers, and when I found this piece I just couldn't resist. I'm going to clean it up, and probably put a spray poly over it. It's another heaving piece. I think it would be great in a craft room.

A great stool I purchased at a great price. And it's a lot heavier than you think. Do I have a theme going here?

I picked up this old seltzer bottle with the multi-drawer cabinet. He gave me a deal since I purchased the two pieces. I love that!

This piece is also staying with me. It's a home made industrial fan, and it, too, ways a ton! Okay I guess I do have a theme going. I purchased it from a vendor who also does Round Top, TX, He has amazing stuff. Thanks, Clark!

These drawers were a steal! All they need is a little cleaning up. I told you I love drawers!

This is a double sided sign. And the patina is perfect if you ask me!

I suspect this metal suitcase was originally painted. I love, did I say LOVE, that it's now just a bare metal finish!

I thought this may be fun in a kitchen...Egg-leston.  My son loves "eggs".  Okay, maybe not right now (they may not be too safe to eat).

I love (am I saying love too much?) these ice cream cups! I bought them from fellow JMS member Mary, or better known as "54girl". Thanks, Mary!

These were used in grain elevators. I bought as many as they had. I have big plans for these....

This drink carrier is another piece purchased from Mary.

This is an old stove base, with the top made from a rusty table top.  I think it would make a great coffee table.

And I saved the best for last. This poultry bin (so I was told) is going to be a project of mine. You'll have to wait and see what I do with it :-)

I'll be posting a few more pictures later.  In the meantime, keep an eye on Amy's two blogs, Whisperwood Cottage and Junkologie for some of her posts.  Until next time....

Coming to a Magazine Near You!

I was thrilled and honored to be asked to take part in a Country Garden photo shoot.  I know, pinch me!  My friend, Sue Whitney of JUNKMARKET, is now a contributor to the magazine!  Yippee!  She will be doing four articles, the first two out in their Spring 2011 issue, the third coming out in the summer and the fourth will be out in Fall 2011.

The first photo shoot, for the Spring issue, was a fairy garden.  I can only give you a sneak peek, and you'll have to wait to get the magazine for the rest.  But it turned out spectacular (if  I do say so myself).  The things she thinks of (what a creative mind).  I was in complete awe. She had quite the little village going on there!

The next day was my debut...ta-da...a Country Garden Party.  And it was a spectacular day to do it.  We had been having storms the days prior, so what weather we would get for the day was a little if-fy.  It was hot, and humid, but the were able to shoot with sun!  Yeah!  And the setting for the picnic, it seemed to come together perfectly.  I so honored to be able to participate, and I even include some of my vintage pieces for the shoot (some may be familiar).  Sue knew she'd have a large stash to pull from me!  Garage shopping sometimes can be the best. Here's a sneak peek of a couple of the shoots....and if you'd like to enlarge the photos, just click on them.

As I said, the day before, the shoot concentrated on a wee little garden Ms. Sue created.  I think she had way too much fun with this one.  Maybe a throwback to her childhood?

It was absolutely amazing...right down to the cute little tetherball game.  Ooops...did I let out a little secret (or is it just a tease)?  Like I said, she had way too much fun on this one.

And the gardens?  They were exquisite!

And then the house....whow Neelly!

The second day was the party.  And we were serving up some good eats.  Hmmmmm.  Unfortunately after a day in the sun, didn't think it was a good idea to eat any of it.  Bummer.....

Here Nick, the art director, is barking out orders (just kidding Nick).  He was the bestest!

And then there were the horse jumping thingy's.  Like my technical lingo?  Hahaha!

The kids were sure having fun with them.

Can you say cheese?  Or maybe I should say trifle.  Dang, did I let out another secret?

Let me tell you, these kids were hysterical!  Can we have more sugar please?

Now to see how the pictures all turned out!

Can you say Photo Opp?  Dang...someone forgot  to tell me (and Nick) to be in the Realtor stance.  My bad!
