From Fireplace to Mantle!

I found these awesome rusty log holders at a local occasional sale for a mere $5 a piece.  What a steal (I ran with them before they changed their mind).  I knew they had some great design elements with multiple uses.

Though these iron pieces were pretty filthy and needed a good scrubbing, I loved their patina.

They also needed a clear coat of poly.  I used a matte finish versus shiny.  I wanted to keep their distressed integrity.

I had no clue as to what they were until I cleaned them and found the enscription "log rest".

I love how long and thin they are.  With a few candles added, one of them fits perfectly on my fireplace mantle.  It's rustiness also works great against my patchwork tin piece.

But when I need to entertain, I grab the other one and with the addition of a stone cutting board (another occasional sale find) I have an instant serving piece!

Wa-la!  Anyone in the mood for a party?

Nummy...I love my Brie Cheese!

They also look beautiful on a windowsill with the candles glowing against the dark night.  Awww...how romantic.  Now all I need is a glass of wine and a chick flick!  Oh, and maybe my honey to watch it with me!

Or how about using one with these European soda bottles and some cheery daisies?  They're just "delightful"...and I'm so ready for spring!

The bottles have some beautiful etching on them.  Another great find!

French Flea February Sale, French Farm House!  I'd like to see you say that five times!  Ha ha!  Now after a little bit of technical difficulty, here are some pictures of this months sale. And I have to say, it's right up my alley.  I'm loving all the architectural, chippy white pieces!  Oh la la!   Hope I don't inundate you with pictures, but I'm way to tired for commentary.  Sorry!

The French Flea Sale and Tea Tasting!

It's that time again already.  Can you believe it!  Just seems like last week.  But that's how fast it sneaks up on you.  Things are looking great.  I love this French Farm House look that's being featured this month.  It is so me.  And it looks like everyone else is getting into it, too.  I'll be in talking pictures so stay tuned.

I also wanted to be sure to let you know about a tea tasting and scone sampling that will be happening on Thursday morning.  Linda and Andrea of The Mad Hatter Tea Room will be on hand to treat you to their wonderful scones and tea.  It is an event you definitely don't want to miss.  They'll be there when the sale starts at 10:00.  And remember, we restock so come early and often.  Hope to see you there!

God is Good!

I usually like my posts to be light and playful and not too terriby wordy.  But I felt the urge to post something a little more on the serious side.  After seeing a few fellow bloggers' post on loved ones dying, friends being diagnosed with cancer and other devistating issues, I felt it appropriate to post something a little more solume.  Reflection is always good.

It's been a tough few years for some folks out there.  Between job losses, loved ones dying, homes being foreclosed on, problems with children, and sickness, life is hard.  But one thing I do know, God is good.  He didn't ever promise us anything otherwise.  He never told us it would always be roses and picket fences.  This is the world we live in.  Hard as it may be sometimes, we need to rely on him, and not what we see.  We've only been given this one life.  We need to make the best of what we can.  Love each other, help the hurting, feed the poor, love our children and live our life the best we can.

So when those minor things are bothering us, those little things that can drive us crazy but are so unimportant, remember those who have it so much worse.  The people suffering in Haiti, those who have lost their jobs, or those who are suffering illness.  Remember...life is hard, but God is good.   I'll leave you with the words of Carrie Underwoods song "Temporary Home".

"This is my temporary home. It’s not where I belong.  Windows and rooms that I’m passing through.  This is just a stop on the way to where I’m going.  I’m not afraid because I know this is my temporary home."

Putting a Little Light on the Subject!

I came across a delapitated wood settee at a yard sale for a mere $5.  I couldn't pass it up.  But when I got it home, I decided it was beyond repair.  So what's a junker to do?  Why make something else out of it of course!

I purchased three of these bathroom cup holders at a flea market a few years back for $5 a piece.  They work perfect to hold candles.

I dismantled the settee, and took the back piece (which was already painted white) and attached the cup holders.   Instant  wall sconce!

These small juice glasses are new, but thought they would be cool accents to the cup holders.

All I needed now was some candles.  You can use tea lights, too, but I just liked the looks of these.

I think it fits perfectly above the vintage desk I have.

And I love this "Family" sign above it.  A local photographer created the letters from architectural pieces in the area.  I've seen them in catalogs, but love the fact that it's from my community!

A small portion of my white pottery adds the finishing touches!
