FALL AAJMS EVENT - OCTOBER 13-17, 2010

If you haven't heard already, we're having another sale!  The first one in May was a huge success and we've decided to do it all over again.  Whew!  We have been working hard to get the place all spiffied up and it's really coming together.

This time around we'll have some holidays to display.  With Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, we've got some vignettes to help get you in the mood.  That's the great thing about October...you can get your fix on all three holidays.

I've been down there everyday, and I'll be getting some pictures taken shortly so stay tuned.  If you are interested in finding out more about the sale and pictures from last May's event, go to http://www.aajms.com/.  It will be held October 13-17, with a Charitable Gala kick-off on the 13th with proceeds from tickets sales going to Forever After Gowns.  It's a great cause and a fun event.  We'd love to have you join us.

PS  I just hit my 400th follower...I can't believe it.  Thanks you'll!  Whoot-whoot!  I'll be having a giveaway as soon as I can take a breath...following the AAJMS sale.

Ahoy Mate! It's Junk Repurposed with a Coastal Theme.

While out and about at some local occasional sales, I stumbled upon this vintage porthole. I've come across them before, usually made out of brass, but this one in particular really intriqued me. I liked the great hardware and patina, but the green paint?  Not so much. But I knew it was a diamond in the rough and all it needed was a little tlc.

And while I'm not a big fan of forest green, the rest of it was just so amazing.

While I could have gone the paint stripping route, I thought a touch of green paint showing through might not be all that bad and even add to the patina.  So I decided to wet sand the sides.  It only had one coat of paint, so it was relatively simple

And after that, just a little poly was all it needed to finished off the piece.

The hardware on the piece--way cool.

And the patina? Wow!

Some fish plates and a vintage float add to the coastal theme.

So a vintage porthole turned out to be a unique table riser. Who'd of thunk it?
