Repost - Decorationg Between the Seasons

Many of you are may be new followers of mine, so I thought I'd go back into my vast blog archives (cough, cough).  Okay, maybe not so vast.  But I thought I'd do a re-post of one I did back in January of  2009.   In it I was pondering how to decorate between the seasons of  New Years and Spring.   Take a look and I'd love to know your thoughts on the matter.

Decorating Between the Seasons

I'm in a dilemma. It's not Christmas, and it's not Spring. So how do I decorate? Do I take down all the seasonal decorations . . . Winter and Christmas? Or can I leave the Winter decorations up, including the trees?

I just felt I wasn't ready to take everything down. My house would be too bare. So this is what I decided. Winter could stay . . . snowflakes, trees, snow . . . but not Santas, ornaments, or Christmas lights. I still have seasonal decorations, just no Christmas.

Now I'd like to hear from you. How do you decorate between the seasons? Do you take all the decorations down, or do you leave some up? I'm just curious. And then let me know what you think of my Winter decor. Do you think it still looks to Christmas-y? Or do you tend to just be so sick of Winter you put Spring out anyway? Let me know. I appreciate your comments.

Lanette..
I feel the same way!!
absolutely so sick of snow and cold!
am so ready for spring..
I go to my favorite Nursery, with camera, spend and hour or so there..
and call it Theraputic Medicine.. for my soul!
just so refreshing to be lost in a sea of color, humid (breathable) air filled with a myriad of tropical scents..
for that hour, I am transported back Home..to Florida!
should I write you a prescription?
warm hugs.. laughing smiles..

If I made our house look springy now, I would be tired of it by the time spring arrived! I go for the winter look - skates, snowy stuff, snow people and evergreens. Your pics from last year are beautiful. Great look for this time of year.

Wow, you have some beautiful vignettes in your home! I typically keep the wintery stuff up until spring but no holiday things. We haven't seen the sun in weeks so yesterday I bought my self a huge bouquet of flowers! Pink carnations mixed with pine and twigs! :) Sarah

You have a knack for making your home look wintery without making it look to much like Christmas....very nice.

love your destination signs ...

anxious to see what you end of doing ..

i usually just go for the calmness and serenity of a clean palette .. lay everything as bare as possible and start building on that for the next season.. when i am set up in my own home, which i am not at the moment .. i have slipcovers for the seasons .. so between seasons i allow the furniture to breathe in it's natural state .. like now, i would not have slips on the sofa - just touches of red here and there - until march - then start bringing out spring slips with floral accents (all my slips are solid colors layered with prints and stripes) - until mid of jun when i would bring out patriotic which would blend in fall, which would blend into winter, christmas and so on and so on ..sorry didn't mean to ramble ..

love your blog!

I love your winter decorating. It's a festive celebration of winter.

Personally I take down all my christmas stuff in January and then decorate with the stuff I don't feel falls into any group (like spring, summer or holidays). It's my time to have out only which I love the most. For some it may be a little plain but that's what a crave in January. Come Feburary, well that's another story.

I am staying present to the moments this year and so I am in winter and love what you have done with these photos!
Come Feb. I will add pinks and reds, purples, and lavenders to my winter palette and come March - the greens will take over.
"Be here now" is my motto and it's winter in Minnesota, so I am revelling in all its pleasures!

Well, it may be January but we have 80 degree weather here in south Texas. So, when Christmas is over it all comes down. I do decorate for the seasons and I use lots of nature items such as seed pods and limbs that are out this time of year. I will put fruit out that is grown here and cotton from the field out in August, in a pretty container.

This is my first year decorating just for "winter". I used snowflakes and trees and white/silver pinecones. But then we don't get snow in southern California, or much winter for that matter (this year being the exception on the winter part). So I am not sick of snow or winter.

I love your decor from last year though.

I think it all looks great and not Christmasy. I, personally, like keeping out a few neutral snowmen to go through winter.

Your in between pictures are perfect. I do the same thing but I am feeling ready to put it all away. But there is still winter weather ahead. BTW I have almost the same old window!

Hi Lani,
Love your pics...your home is beautiful and I agree with not wanting to bare down after all the Christmas decor. I usually keep up all my snowmen thru February since we are still in the midst of winter and SNOW in the NE. This year the snowmen & mitten ornaments were kept out and hung up on my wooden dryer mounted above the fireplace. Some of the glass hurricanes with white beach glass, berries and pinecones were left on the mantel with bits of red added here and there for Valentine's Day.

I like decorating with winter for the month of January. Somewhere in the middle of that month I lean toward Valentine's Day but still leave out some snowmen and snowflakes, etc. When Valentine's Day is over I'll make my decor more springy. I love vintage ladies hats and gloves and such for around Easter.
