More Adventures with Ms. Sue and the Junk Gang

There was so much happening in Texas I don't hardly know where to continue. Tuesday we finished our set-up and did a little shopping at Marburger before the book signing began. There were so many amazing and unique booths there. My favorite had to be J Hill Designs, owned by Judy Hill. I absolutely loved everything in her booth. The displays were magnificent and every item was incredible. My favorite had to be the gazebo her husband had put together for her. It was made from spare parts probably from the '60's. Let me tell you, I tried everything to get this back to Minnesota! If she still has it in the fall, I'm bringing a trailer! Judy has two sales each year in her home and she sells everything to the bare wall. Wish she only lived closer. Love her! Here's a few pictures of Judy (and her gazebo), along with the wonderful things in her booth.
The book signing was great fun and took place between noon and 3:00 outside of the Marburger Cafe. We worked along side of Stephen from Habitat for Humanity and he was able to make lots of connections for his organization. Sue and Kimberly spent the time signing books and meeting many new and fun junk fans. The weather was a little windy, but all in all a nice day. The hammock in the booth was a huge hit and sold right away, with many asking about it only to find it was no longer available. The lamp I made for the Contributors Challenge for Junk Market Style was also donated to Habitat for Humanity and sold as it was being carried to another booth for display (they were selling piano rolls). All in all I think it was a very successful day.

Another fun and unique booth was Mandie's of The Shop Antiques. She specializes in Carnival Memorabilia. At the ripe young age of 27, there are few dealers as young as her. My favorite item she had was a duck pond that unfortunately had already been sold. Some shop owner had purchased it for special sales. "Pick a duck, any duck and win a prize!" Loved her big clown shoes, too!To finish off the day we had dinner at the Royer's Round Top Café, known for their pies. It was spent with Rick, owner of Marburger Farms and other guests. The food was wonderful and the company was even better. It made for a perfect ending to a perfect day.
Here's Georgia with a "quite a character" who was eating at Royer's. What a fun picture!
Sue and Bud the Pie Man from Royer's. Check out the website to read some of his Budisms! That sure is some goooood blueberry pie!!!

In my next post, I'll have more pictures from our shopping, and some great pictures of the Junk Gypsy Prom. Until then . . .

So fun, Lani! J Hill Designs' booth is incredible and I was so happy I could enlarge the photos to see all the great details. Congrats on selling your piano roll lamp for Habitat! Very cool. I thought the Junkmarket booth was fun looking as well and would have been one inquiring about the hammock as well. Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see photos from the prom!

Melissa, thanks for the kind words. And it is an absolute honor to have you as a follower! I'll have to go and check out your blog! Margo, you're right. Judy's prices where high (I didn't buy anything), but everything was so beautiful to look at! I do think Texas is expensive compared to MN. At least what I saw. But it could be just the venue. Andrea, it was so fun to meet you and the Junk-Fest gang. Glad you were delayed (at least so I could meet you). Thanks everyone!

Lani what a great post. It was so fun to see Judy Hills current displays, as she has always had such great style. She's an icon in her own right. I've also seen the young gal featured before in a national magazine publication. It is truly remarkable to be so "hip" at such a young age and so targeted with her unique carnival interests.
Love the hammock and the Junk Market booth area too.
Looks like you had a blast.

Wow, looks like so much fun! I would love to go just to see the Magnolia Pearl booth myself (and hope to very soon!). That gazebo does look fantastic and that bed... I think I want everything except the bike and that's only because I've got my Dad's vintage one. How great you were next to Habitat for Humanity, talk about a great cause. Thanks for sharing and I got a kick out of the "that's some good blueberry pie"... reminded me of Agt. Cooper & the cherry pie ;)
Happy Easter!
