This past weekend I was privileged to go to Charlotte, NC and accompany Sue Whitney of JUNKMARKET Style on a speaking engagement she had for the Southern Ideal Home and Bath Show. I had a girlfriend who lived relatively close by so I could kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
I arrived on Friday just in time for Sue's first speaking session. I was very impressed with her style and ease at speaking. She's a natural! And the audience seemed thoroughly entertained, while being introduced and informed on the art of junking. By the end of the weekend, I probably could have recited her presentation, but I actually never got tired of it. It was fun to hear the audiences questions and see their reactions. And I'll tell you, these people are hungry to hear about junking!
After Sue finished speaking, I was able to stay, listen to and meet an HGTV talent, actor and carpenter extraordinaire, Anthony Gilardi, who stars in "Myles of Style" with Kim Myles, and was also the winner of "Showdown" with Vern Yip. I have to say, I was a little embarrassed not to know who he was. I'm not quite the HGTV junkie I use to be. Guess I better get on the ball! This was Anthony's first formal speaking gig, and "if" he was a little nervous, you'd never know it! He was very down to earth, and very informative. The audience really seemed to connect with him. He did a fabulous job and it was an honor to have met him. I'm looking forward to some great things from him in the future. You go Anthony!
The next day I was able to reconnect with an old friend, Lisa of Artisans Press, who lives in Greensboro. She was able to drive down for the day and spend time with us. I was also thrilled to connect for the first time with a fellow JUNKMARKET Style member, Mary Beth of Down Home DIY. I say the more junkers, the merrier! And since we were all together, why not spend a day of junking! So the four of us, Sue, Lisa, Mary Beth and myself headed out to a great place in Charlotte called "The Sleepy Poet". Thanks to "Carmen" the GPS System, we were able to find the place pretty much without a hitch. Well, maybe a few side streets. Ha!
Okay, now about the Sleepy Poet. What a place! Boy oh boy. Tons and tons of cool stuff! And we hardly got through the place. With only a little bit of time, we were on the hunt for some cools stuff, and in a hurry! But the place was so big, you could get lost! And a few times, we did! LOL! And there were a couple of booths that really caught my eye. Two booths, next to each other had some amazing things. And to my surprise they were fellow bloggers, Artsy Fartsy and Olde Tyme Marketplace! I recognized the names and new instantly why I was drawn to them. I follow their blogs! What a small world is that!
After a fun filled afternoon there, I only purchased one thing, and only because I was flying. But this one thing I had to have! I wish I had a picture of it, but alas, it had to be shipped. You'll have to stay tuned to see what it was. But when you see it, you'll know it's totally me! As to Sue, Lisa and Mary Beth, they bought the place out. Well almost. They found some amazing things and I'm sure they'll be back!! At least Lisa and Mary Beth who are local. Thanks Sleepy Poet!
I also really want to thank, Sue, for allowing me to tag along with her. I hope I was more a help then a hindrance. I so much enjoyed my weekend and really appreciated the time to get away and just have fun! I loved Charlotte and hope to be back again some day. If you're ever in Charlotte, be sure to check out the Sleepy Poet!
Sue gets very expressive when she speaks. Can you tell she use to be a former gymnast?
I should have wrestled Sue for this necklace!

Great post. What a fun weekend it looked like you had. And I'm sure Sue appreciated having a familiar face nearby. The Sleepy Poet sounds awesome, I'll keep that in mind if I'm ever down near Charlotte (my BIL & SIL live there).

I've been waiting for this fun post to read. I knew you had an amazing time and it was fun to see it in black and white (yes, I do read all of the print) as well as the photos. I love Janna's style, and it is so cool that you found her spot at the Sleepy Poet. Lots of fun memories from this trip, I'm sure.
